Poderi Roset Barolo Monvigliero Riserva 2016
Poderi Roset Barolo Monvigliero Riserva 2016, Piedmont, Italy
Poderi Roset is located in the town of Verduno, in the province of Cuneo. Silvio Busca started as the winemaker and with a partner was able to become the owner of Poderi Roset.
100% Nebbiolo. In order to get the Barolo denomination a winery needs to age the wine for at least 3 years – at least 18 months of them in wood. For the Riserva, it is 5 years – 18 months in wood minimum.
For the 2016, the maceration on the skins was about 45 days. After 36 months in wood (18 months in tonneaux, 500 liters, all French oak, and another 18 months in large barrels, 2500 liters, each half French Allier oak and half Slovenian oak, 2 to 15 year old), Silvio decided the wine needed more time to evolve. He left it in wood for a few more months, about 40 months in total. That’s when he decided to make it a Riserva and wait a few more years before release, longer than other producers. About 3,000 bottles produced per year. Organic farming.
